Early Life

Steven Allan Spielberg was born December 18, 1946 in hometown Cincinnati, Ohio to an Orthodox Jewish family. His mother, Leah Adler Posner was a restaurateur and concert pianist, and his father, Arnold Spielberg was an electrical engineer involved in the development of computers. Steven spent most of his childhood living in New Jersey as well as Scottsdale, Arizona. As a child, Spielberg faced difficulty reconciling being an Orthodox Jew. He was timid on what the other children may say or think of him. All the way up until high school Spielberg had a rough childhood because he was Jewish. He was a victim of bullying and prejudice, in high school he got smacked and kicked around. But he did not let that stop him from chasing his dreams.

After moving to California, he applied to attend the film school at University Of Southern California School of Theater, Film and Television, but was unsuccessful. He than applied to California State University. Spielberg became a brother of Theta Chi Fraternity. His actual career began when he returned to Universal Studios as an unpaid, seven-day-a-week intern and guest of the editing department there. After Spielberg became famous, University of Southern California awarded him an honorary degree in 1994, and in 1996 he became a trustee of the university (Wikipedia). Thirty-five years later he earned his bachelor degree in Theater, Film and Television production (.bio).
